So, I started Trimps recently (like 3 days ago). Since I read this somewhere, I did my first Portal at Z23, and the second atZ30 for the achievement. So, I got a bit of helium, distributed it. Problem is, still feels like nothing. How far do I have to advance to see some form of progress? I know this is an idle game (semi idle actually, at best), and supposed to take a long time, but I started SwarmSim only shortly before Trimps, did my first ascension and this already feels a lot stronger.Trimps feels slow and tedious.
Maybe this is just not for me?. The thing with this game's progression is that it's mostly about reaching milestones. You reach certain zones which unlock certain things which give you a significant boost until you find the next big thing. The first big thing you encounter is Carpentry.
This is a perk you unlock by completing the challenge unlocked by reaching zone 35.It might feel dire if you think the only upgrades you will ever have are the ones you currently see, which is what many games make you think, but not Trimps. If you decide to continue giving the game a shot, shoot for that milestone. Also have at least 4-5 points in Bait, to ease the beginning of the run, and help breeding speeds around zone 18 and above. If you don't want spoilers, but might want to see how much content there is, just to see just how much challenges there are. But yes, the game is relatively slow either way, and thus not for everybody.
The game certainly does not go crazy quickly like Swarm Sim does.EDIT: Also, reaching zone 30 on your second run, while often recommended for the achievement, is likely far from optimal. It's probably what took you the longest, and what made you feel discouraged. The achievement is not really a boost and certainly not required to obtain and can be done later, but some people choose to do it early because it's annoying to do later. Yeah, it was nice following the game's development not knowing what's going to exist ahead. It's probably quite a bit different now, as you get spoiled bits and pieces by looking at community forums or kongregate chats. Is the 'metal' challenge doable so early in the game?I believe so, but it's been more than 1.5 years since I did it, and the game was much different back then:PYou only have to beat Dimension of Anger without miners, so if you'd already gone to zone 30 it might not be that difficult. This is what I am afraid of.
That's not what I expect from a game, even an idle incremental game. I want to make progress, noticable progress. Not soemthing like 'oh yeah, my trimps got 5% more hp now, that's so awesome'. Because it's not.I'll check the next 2 or 3 challenges if possible, see what zones 35-50 are about, if possible (in a timely manner), and then decide.

But so far I don't see myself playing for very long. And Trimps is around now since forever. I played the very first version that made it to Kongregate. But even then, the first 2 or 3 balance passes slowed the game down so much that I lost interest. Without cheating and scripting, reaching Z200+ should take months, maby even year to reach - depending on your playstyle and time dedicated for the game. You can assume, that most likely normal player will progress in average less than 1Z/day. There are few walls, like Z60, or Z180, that can stop you for a while, but great thing is, that they are changing game rules as well, so you wont be bored;)And, well, its semi-idle game that takes months/years of progress before you 'finish' official content/achievements, and its still in development, becoming bigger and better. Its your choice - if it sounds good for you, or not.
While what he said is true, I belive its from the view of a autotrimper, aka he is using script to play, when playing mannuly you will get to see new challenges and new milestones and while each step is justnew progression it will feel new and exiitng, or atleast I belive it did for us that stuck aroundits an idlegame, what did you expect? If everything went fast you would get bored in a few days, trimps have contents for months and is still being updated quite regularly, give it some time, first portal are the most tedious, it gets smoother once you have beaten size. You are basically in the same position I was in a few months ago. I actually ragequit the game after a few weeks because I could barely progress.and I hadn't even gotten to my first portal.
(I also pushed to z30 for the achievement before portaling the first time, which was a slog.) I came back to it a couple weeks later and I've been addicted for the last three months and currently stuck in the z130s.The key is to always run a challenge because every challenge will give you that improvement you want. You will get more perks, you will get more benefits, you will get more helium, and you will be baffled at how quickly you reach zones it used to take you days to reach. Every now and then you'll unlock a game-changer like Carpentry, noted above, and you'll really feel that improvement. The Exotic Imp-orts also help a lot (I recommend Whipimp as a first one). Stick with it!. You mentioned the Swarm Simulator.
I played it long, long time ago and thanks to your post I noticed, that it`s updated again! Nice! So, I started to play it. Unlock ascension, waited some time before I was able to ascend (need to spend and generate energy, it does take time). And after I ascend first time I discovered, that mutations arent interesting, and that the game dont have really anything more to offer.I tought that this is true even before ascension, but I waited patiently. Theres nothing more in SwarmSim.
After 1-2 days of playing, you basicly see all the 'game meat' that the game does have to offer. So why can you compare it to trimps just like that?
Or am I missing the point? SwarmSim shows and gives you everything after few days, there is nothing more to do, just wait and occasionally upgrade.Trimps - well, you have months of discovering new content. You cant compare those two games. You're not wrong actually.
I'm also slowly losing interest in SwarmSim, but I start to like the challenge Trimps poses. You know, SwarmSim is an old school incremental game, you increase numbers, to increase other numbers quicker, and reach higher numbers faster.;-)Trimps is different, yep. But I think it could be a bit more rewarding at some points during early game. It builds up reeeeally slowly. It also keeps the numbers low and slow, which adds to a general feel of 'underachievement'.
There is no defined end game, though beating spire is great piece of story unfolding, and theres isnt to much story past itas for new content there is currently no new past z246last mastery is gained around z360after that there's just achievements left, typically last ones to pick up are humane to z350, 50k world zones cleared, 500 portals done and 5k heirlooms obtainedafter that point we just keep on playing to earn more of the remaining 4 resources that carry over portals (helium, nulifium, magmite, nature tokens). If this really is eating away at you like this, might I recommend trying out AutoTrimps? It's a tool that you load overtop of the Trimps game, that lets you automate some things for you EDIT: You can use it to automate NEARLY EVERYTHING FOREVER, if you want to rip the fun right out of the game.If you're really spending so much time on it that could be best used otherwise, you could use AutoTrimps to automate you some Helium gain, and then when you actually want to play and experience new things, you can turn it off and proceed from there.
